senangPay is a leading Malaysian fintech company, specializing in secure and scalable online payment solutions. Founded in 2015, the company provides businesses with seamless digital transactions, catering to SMEs and enterprises alike. With a strong focus on compliance, security, and innovation, senangPay has grown into a trusted payment gateway, processing over MYR 1.8 billion in transactions annually. In 2022, senangPay was acquired by Indonesia-based DOKU for $7.5 million, marking DOKU's initial expansion into the Malaysian market. 

Problem Statement

For more than a year, senangPay had been searching for their ideal Head of Engineering without success. The role demanded a leader capable of overseeing the PHP-to-Java migration, transitioning from a monolithic to a microservices architecture, and strengthening security compliance. Additionally, the company faced challenges in managing evolving regulatory requirements, scaling its payment infrastructure, and addressing the growing need for secure and reliable transactions. Given Malaysia’s highly competitive fintech landscape, attracting top-tier leadership proved to be a significant hurdle. Despite the company engaging multiple recruitment agencies in Malaysia, the right candidate remained elusive, delaying their crucial technology transformation.

Execution & Solution

As senangPay partnered with Purple Quarter to streamline its tech leader hiring, we noted initial platform-based outreach evoked limited responses, so we shifted to direct engagement, significantly boosting interaction and role interest. Using our Behavioral Metric Model (BMM), we identified Araz Farhang as the ideal candidate, blending Creator and Nurturer traits to lead SenangPay’s tech vision and team. Recognizing his expertise, we recommended the core team for title upgrade to CTO (from Head of Engineering), aligning with SenangPay’s long-term strategic goals.
